In my book "Mere Animals" I give a LOT of grief to the Japanese and their lack of personal connection to their society and to other people in their society.  But Japan is hardly the only nation suffering from this killer sickness. I was shocked to read about the recent terrorist attack on the Muslim gatherings in Christchurch.  This is not acceptable, and the shooter was wrong. I certainly understand the frustration many of us feel towards our fellow citizens as they intentionally go about ignoring the casualties we have sustained in attacks by Islamists and lying about the nature of the Muslim terrorists carrying out the attacks. But there is NO SHORTCUT to public consensus on the subject. Revenge killing makes you a murderer, just like the terrorists and their supporters. Our job is to persuade before it's too late, NOT take the law into our own hands, unless we are responding to a LOCAL event perpetrated on us and our government won't protect us. That's not where we are at this point, and this attack was completely unjustified.
